Matthew Algeo, Author of ‘When Harry Met Pablo,’ named Chief Influencer

The Communications Board names Matthew Algeo, author of When Harry Met Pablo, as a Chief Influencer.

In this episode of Chief Influencer, Algeo talks about his book "When Harry Met Picasso" with host Anthony Shop, and discusses the political message behind the now-iconic photograph of Harry Truman shaking hands with Pablo Picasso.

Algeo discusses the approach he takes when telling stories about historical figures and emphasizes the importance of finding unique and interesting entry points for his stories –which he does by focusing on smaller moments in people's lives that are often overlooked. Algeo uses this approach in his book "Harry Truman's Excellent Adventure," which tells the story of Truman's summer road trip in 1953, following his departure from the White House.

Algeo's goal is to make history more accessible to a wider audience by finding creative ways to bring attention to important events that might otherwise be forgotten. Algeo also believes in the importance of trust in building relationships, particularly in politics, business, and communities. Algeo explains that trust is an essential ingredient for motivating people to do what is best for the country and to achieve their goals.

Algeo asserts that trust is a hard-to-acquire capital, similar to a type of political capital, and argues that politicians and important figures in society must be willing to take risks for things that they believe are valuable, even if it means alienating a portion of their base. Overall, Algeo emphasizes the importance of being honest and direct in communications.
