Rob Sand, Iowa State Auditor, named Chief Influencer

The Communications Board names Rob Sand, the 33rd state auditor of Iowa, as a Chief Influencer.

In this podcast episode, Chief Infuencer’s Anthony Shop is joined by Sand where they discuss transparency and accountability in government, as well as the importance of working with anyone to do good and stopping as much bad as possible. Rob Sand regularly hosts "Transparency Tuesdays" via Facebook live to keep his constituents informed about his work and discuss issues related to government accountability.

Sand, the only Democrat Statewide or federal office holder from Iowa, discusses how being open and human in his communication style magnifies his impact. He believes that it is important to explain to people what he does as a public official and let them into the process of governance with more transparency. He talks about the importance of accessibility in government and how it is important for people to have a sense of the ability to reach their government and to actually have a check-in point.

In the second half of the episode, Sand talks about the largest lottery rigging scheme in American history involving Eddie Tipton, the security chief of the Multi-State Lottery Association, who rigged games in 17 states starting in 2005. Sand discusses the circumstantial evidence in his prosecution of Tipton, and how this kind of evidence can be used as clues instead of coincidences.
